Client Prep Guide – Fresh 48 Session

WHAT TO WEAR:

Because a Fresh 48 session aims to capture genuine moments in real time, I recommend wearing attire that is comfortable and true to the time you’ll be spending at the birth facility. Consider a gown or pajamas for Mom, a neutral solid-colored t-shirt with jeans for Dad, and a neutral-toned gown or onesie. Hospital gowns, messy hair, puffy eyes, and diapers (for both you and baby) are completely acceptable. One thing to keep in mind – neutral-toned clothing is always best!

SPECIAL ITEMS TO BRING:

While not required, you might want to include some special items in your session. A muslin blanket with a solid tone or print matching baby’s nursery, and/or a wooden or acrylic name placard for baby’s stats can add a personal touch to your photos. Not necessary but totally up to you!

TIMING AND NOTIFICATION:

I typically recommend scheduling Fresh 48 sessions around noon on the day following delivery. This allows for soft natural light from windows and a quieter hospital environment. It’s crucial to notify your nurses, friends, and family of the session time to avoid interruptions. I’ll do my best to work around staff and stay out of the way during the session. Make sure to feed baby and have them burped prior to my arrival so everyone is happy and we can spend our time together treasuring his/her presence!

SIBLING INTRODUCTIONS:

To facilitate a smooth transition with a new baby in the household, sibling introductions at the birth facility can be an important part of the bonding process. Plan to make arrangements with a close friend or family member to bring older siblings for a visit during your session time. I’ll guide you through the process to ensure a special moment for them.

FACILITY PERMISSION & VISITOR POLICIES:

Check with your OB or midwife during prenatal appointments to ensure photography is permitted in your birth facility. Also, inquire about visitor policies during the postpartum stage. I’ll work with you to respect the rules and make the session seamless.

FLEXIBILITY IN CASE OF CHANGES:

Don’t stress if things don’t go as planned. Births are unpredictable, and my job is to capture your unique story. I leave extra availability around your due date to accommodate unexpected delivery times and associates whom I trust to shoot for me if I am unavailable. If your stay is extended or circumstances change, I’ll work with you to ensure the session happens at the best time for you and your baby or discuss options to turn it in to an inhome lifestyle shoot.

STAY CONNECTED:

It’s important to keep me updated with any changes to your pregnancy. Please notify me when your baby arrives (a simple text is sufficient), and feel free to contact me with any questions before your session.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, DON’T HESITATE TO REACH OUT. I’M HERE TO SUPPORT YOU EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.
